Here’s your chance to step into a dynamic, fast-paced environment, where every day presents new challenges and opportunities. Join a renowned Regulatory Department, celebrated for its expertise across a variety of sectors including healthcare, the public sector, corporations, and individuals. This is a role for someone who thrives in the courtroom and wants to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by civil protective orders.
This is not your average legal role – it’s a chance to be at the forefront of advocacy. You will have regular court appearances, sometimes daily, with the opportunity to represent clients in high-stakes civil protective order cases. Your primary focus will be on courts in Sussex, Guildford, Essex, Ipswich, and Staines, though you may also attend other courts as needed.
You’ll be responsible for advising, preparing, and presenting a range of civil protective orders in the Magistrates’ Court, including:
- Domestic Violence Protection Orders
- Stalking Protection Orders
- Sexual Harm Prevention Orders
- Sexual Risk Orders
- Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions
- Closure Orders
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of around 100 civil protective orders in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Draft and prepare applications and all necessary court documentation.
- Handle shared inboxes and promptly respond to client queries.
- Provide ad hoc advice and support to your colleagues on court days.
- Advocate passionately in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court (if holding Higher Rights).
- Liaise with clients, respondents, defence solicitors, police officers, and counsel.
- Keep on top of diary management and administrative tasks to ensure smooth case handling.
- Meet financial and chargeable targets, recording your time efficiently.
About You:
We’re looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister who is eager to make their mark in advocacy, particularly in the realm of civil protective orders. If you’re someone who thrives on the excitement of the courtroom and the challenge of managing a busy caseload, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- A strong interest in advocacy, ideally with experience in presenting cases in court.
- Exceptional advocacy skills or a keen desire to develop and sharpen them.
- The ability to manage a high-volume caseload while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and IT skills to keep everything running smoothly.
- A self-motivated, independent work ethic, with a willingness to travel for court hearings.
Desirable Experience:
- Previous Magistrates’ Court advocacy experience is a plus.
- Experience advising or representing police forces would be highly beneficial.
Additional Information:
- Employment is subject to Police Vetting Clearance, including compliance with Residency Criteria.
- Successful candidates will undergo a comprehensive employment screening process before starting.
