Vacancy: Legal Cashier
Position: Full time, permanent
Location: Hastings
My client is a regional law firm who have a high reputation for their ‘in depth knowledge’. They have been serving expertise to their clients for over 250 years. Due to constant growth, they are seeking a Legal Cashier to join them in the Hastings office.
What You’ll Do:
- Sort and distribute daily incoming post and DX to the relevant team members.
- Download and process bank statements for all accounts on a daily basis.
- Reconcile Client and Business bank accounts as required.
- Keep track of the banking forecast and apply funds as necessary.
- Monitor and process electronic payments (CHAPS, BACs, FPC) throughout the day.
- Allocate, post, and manage incoming electronic and manual receipts.
- Set up and process CHAPS transactions and other electronic payments as requested by fee earners, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
- Handle foreign payments when requested.
- Prepare Client and Business credits for banking, and complete bank deposit books as necessary.
- Process cheque requests and print cheques for signing.
- Calculate and apply Client interest when requested.
- Process credit/debit card payments and manage Client to Business transfers for costs and disbursements.
- Keep Client ledgers accurate, ensuring no posting errors or overdrafts.
- Print, check, and distribute file labels and run housekeeping system reports.
- Assist the Finance Manager and Senior Cashier when required.
- Ensure full compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Respond to internal and external enquiries related to accounts.
- Manage petty cash payments and perform reconciliations.
- Perform general filing and administrative duties as needed.
- Provide support with any other tasks to help keep the accounts department running smoothly.
What You’ll Need:
- At least 2 years of experience as a Legal Cashier, preferably with client-side experience.
- A good understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- GCSEs or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills with a professional phone manner.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- A team player with a positive attitude.
- Familiarity with Partner for Windows is a bonus.
