Job Description: Flexible Compliance Solicitor position at an SRA-Regulated Law Firm
Job Title: Compliance Solicitor
Location: Altrincham (one to two days per week plus remote working)
Reports to: Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP)
Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 FTE, pro-rata depending on agreed working hours
Working Hours: 22.5 – 37.5 hours, to be agreed
The Claims Guys Legal is a UK-based law firm specialising in providing legal services related to financial claims, focusing on mis-sold financial products. Our primary focus is currently helping clients recover compensation for undisclosed commission on car finance agreements.

 We are known for taking a client-focused approach, offering personalised services that aim to simplify the claims process for individuals who may be unaware of their eligibility for compensation or who feel overwhelmed by the legal process.

We are a fast-moving technology-driven service that leverages that technology to streamline the claims process, offering clients online tools and support to initiate and track their claims efficiently.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Solicitor to support our COLP in ensuring that the firm complies with the regulatory and legal obligations set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and aid in the supervision of non-qualified staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Assist the COLP in ensuring that the firm complies with SRA regulations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations, and other relevant legal frameworks.
    • Monitor and review changes in legislation and SRA regulations to ensure that the firm stays compliant with evolving legal requirements.
    • Help develop, implement, and maintain the firm’s compliance policies and procedures.
    • Assist with the firm’s annual compliance return and ensure timely reporting of material breaches to the SRA.
  2. Supervision of Non-Qualified Staff
    • Assist in delivering regular training and updates to the firm’s staff on regulatory obligations and best practices.
    • Assist in ensuring that the firm’s staff are aware of and adhere to internal policies.
    • Conduct regular audits and compliance reviews of the work of non-qualified staff, ensuring that any non-compliance or risk areas are addressed swiftly.
  3. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Support the maintenance of accurate and detailed records of compliance activities, including breach registers, risk assessments.
    • Assist the COLP in preparing reports for the firm’s management board and the SRA as required.
  4. Conflicts and Confidentiality:
    • Help to manage conflict of interest and confidentiality issues, ensuring compliance with SRA rules.
    • Provide advice and guidance to staff on conflict checks and ethical matters.

  Skills and Qualifications:

  • Legal Qualification: Qualified solicitor with at least 3 years’ post-qualifying experience.
  • Compliance Experience: Strong knowledge of legislation and regulation, including the SRA Standards and Regulations
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in monitoring regulatory requirements and implementing policies.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify potential risks and suggest practical solutions to ensure compliance.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice on compliance matters.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ethical Judgment: A solid understanding of professional ethics and integrity in legal practice.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience supervising non-qualified staff.
  • Experience in compliance or risk management within a law firm.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation
