About Your New Role
Our client, a leading law firm, is seeking an experienced Costs Lawyer to join their dynamic Costs and Advocacy team. The role involves managing a diverse range of cost matters across commercial and personal injury litigation, from low-value disputes to high-value, complex cases. This team regularly attends CCMC’s and application hearings, providing guidance on all aspects of the claim, not limited to costs alone. You will be involved throughout the life cycle of the claim, from initial reserving and estimates through to budgeting, and will play a pivotal role in recovering or disputing costs at the conclusion of the matter.
This position can be based at either the Manchester or Birmingham office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting costs budgets, Points of Dispute, Replies, and Bills of Costs
- Negotiating settlements and drafting Schedules of Costs
- Advocacy in CCMC hearings and applications
- Managing high-value matters within both personal injury and commercial litigation
- Assisting in all aspects of cost recovery and dispute management
- Collaborating with teams to ensure the efficient and timely progression of matters
- Managing a caseload and effectively prioritising workloads
- Working within team guidelines to ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures
About You:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in costs litigation. Experience in both Defendant and Claimant work is highly desirable. Key skills should include:
- Experience in drafting costs budgets and assessing bills of costs
- Strong advocacy skills and the ability to represent clients at hearings
- A detailed approach to drafting Points of Dispute, Replies, and Bills of Costs
- Expertise in negotiating settlements and drafting Schedules of Costs
- The ability to manage a caseload effectively under pressure
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- A genuine interest and passion for the costs sector
